Junior star looking to impress on world stage

-

FUTSAL: Not many people can lay claim to making an international side within a year of starting out in a sport, but a Toowoomba junior with a bright future has done just that.

After joining the sport just last year, Hayden Stibbard is off to the U16s World Futsal Championships in Florida in July, where he will compete against the best teams in the world.

“I saw him playing in a social competition and we went from there,” Freelance Futsal director Nomes Langham said.

“At the nationals in Melbourne in January he performed well in what was a pretty intense competition.”

After a strong showing in Victoria, Hayden was overjoyed when he found out he would be representing at the July event.

“I was very keen to go,” Hayden said. “When I got the message I raced to mum and told her I got picked.

“I was happy all day.” Hayden has been a member of the Rockville Rovers football side since U6s, and said he had enjoyed the freedom to play both sports.

“When I started it took a little while. I’m a lot more into it, and it’s hard to choose between the two,” he said.

“I want to keep playing with the club, and enjoy the experiences and opportunities to play more games.”
