1. Milne Bay Military Challenge

ONE of Toowoomba’s favourite team events, the Milne Bay Military Challenge, is back this weekend.

The running event through Toowoomba’s national parks, which was started last year, includes a 7km, 15km and 30km version to test all fitness types.

There will also be categories for schools.

2. Street Science shows

SCIENCE is heading to the streets of Toowoomba, in a bid to encourage more children into the industry.

The Street Science team will run two exclusive shows at the Cobb and Co Museum in the morning and afternoon, with experiment­s such as fireballs, controlled explosions and liquid nitrogen concoction­s.

Entry is free into the museum.

3. Cinema Under the Stars

KEEN for a fun family afternoon while watching a free movie?

Walton Stores has brought back its Movie Under The Stars format this weekend, following the success of its screening of Moana.

This Sunday’s movie is the family film The BFG.

4. Nature Play Activities

IN CELEBRATIO­N of the upcoming Gold Coast Commonweal­th Games, the Toowoomba Regional Council has given the Nature Play activities event a games theme this weekend.

Commonweal­th Games ambassador Kristina Clonan will open the event, with events ranging from pine cone shot put to bamboo javelin throwing.

Ms Clonan, who is a 19-year-old cyclist from the Sunshine Coast, claimed two national titles in the space of month earlier this year.

Registrati­ons start from 9am, with the opening ceremony an hour later.

5. Launch of Highfields Hub

THE Highfields Hub, an initiative by the Highfields Community Church, will be officially opened on Sunday morning.

The celebratio­ns begin with a church service at 9am, where the church will share its vision for the community.

The grand opening will be followed by a family fun day from 11am.

There will be fun activities for kids, barefoot bowls, table tennis, live entertainm­ent, food and drinks and more.

6. Brothers Movie Night

READY for a night of fun with the family?

Brothers Rugby League Club is hosting a screening of the 2012 comedy film, Parental Guidance, starring Billy Crystal and Bette Midler.

The gates open at 5.30pm, with the film expected to start at 6.15pm.

Food and drinks will be available to buy at the grounds.

7. Celebrity chef demonstrat­ions

CELEBRITY chef Alastair McLeod will be in Toowoomba today to hold a series of cooking demonstrat­ions at Grand Central Shopping Centre.

Known for his work on Channel 10’s Ready Steady Cook and Channel Seven’s Great Day Out, Mr McLeod will run sessions at 10am, 11.30am and 2pm in the centre’s market room on level one.

Meals created will include salmon brandade, peppered flatiron beef and smoky Irish whiskey pork belly.

The event is free and recipe cards will be available.

8. Garden City Gala

BRISBANE Broncos captain Darius Boyd and wife Kayla are the special guests at the Garden City Gala.

The major event at the Blank Space in the Mills Precinct will raise valuable funds for the Black Dog Institute.

Ticket includes a three-course meal, beer and wine package, entertainm­ent and auctioning.

9. Ladies Night In

BOUTIQUE fashion store Smoke and Mirrors is hosting a special event to help women of all background­s socialise and network.

The evening, kicking off at 5pm, includes wine and cocktails as well as plenty of fun and laughter.

10. St Pat’s Day

EVERYONE will be a little Irish today, as the annual St Patrick’s Day parade kicks off
