CONSTRUCTION has begun on a much-anticipated multiple-storey high rise and commercial hub in Toowoomba.

Bernoth Holdings is the developer behind South Central precinct at 677-683 Ruthven St.

The precinct will compliment the existing Bernoth Centre and new medical and commercial centre.

South Central will have 2700sqm of large format retail space, 500sqm of office space and a residential tower.

When previously talking to The Chronicle about the project, developer Barry Bernoth wanted residents to know the aim was for the units to be as affordable as possible.

“We had advice from our architect and builder to modify the floor layout which would result in more affordable living,” he said.

“Our desire is for the units to become as affordable as possible.

“They will be in a great position, with retail stores below and easy access to public transport along Ruthven St.

“This development is in a good position and is conveniently located for people on the southern side of town and for people travelling on the Warrego Hwy.”

Sites for South Central are now being leased by LJ Hooker’s Julie Stewart.
