Rangers in early search for talent
BASEBALL: Toowoomba Rangers have begun planning for the 2018-19 GBL baseball season after ending a tough introduction to the Division One League on a positive note.
Rangers finished at the bottom of this year’s major league table but in encouraging signs for the club it saved its best form for the back end of the competition with three late-season wins.
One of Rangers’ best league performances was a home win over Surfers Paradise which is currently battling Windsor Royals in this season’s play-off series.
Rangers’ president Darryl Luchterhand said the search was already on for import players after the club was caught short early last season after not being able to secure several overseas players.
But Luchterhand said Rangers would look closer to home for imported talent before looking overseas.
“We’re already looking for next season,” Luchterhand said.
“We’ve taken a lot out of this season which finished

with some positives and we’re looking forward to building on those.
“The fact Surfers made it through to the grand final goes well for us considering we took a game off them at home late in the season.”
Luchterhand also praised the efforts of Brenton Althaus after he was took out the A-grade batting award at last weekend’s presentation dinner.
“Brenton hit near 300 for us which is outstanding in his first year at that level and he is only going to improve,” Luchterhand said.
Pitcher Sam McNeice was named MVP and Daniel Luchterhand took out the Golden Glove award.
C-grade player Tim Lloyd is this season’s Ian Luchterhand Medal winner and Tony Walters club man. Ray Archibald was awarded Rangers’ life membership.
Mitch Archibald was named team man and Buckley Morgan claimed the scholarship award.
