FRIENDS OF OLD HAVE ANOTHER SHOT AT FINDING LOVE

- INSIDER WORDS: SEANNA CRONIN

If you thought The Bachelor and Bachelorette weren’t incestuous enough, then just wait for Bachelor in Paradise.

After five seasons of The Bachelor and three of The Bachelorette, it seems like half of Bondi and the Gold Coast’s social sets have been on the shows “looking for love’’.

In the debut episode, cast members arrive with more baggage than just suitcases full of togs. One person may not technically be single and two other cast members may know each other pretty intimately.

Bachie fans are going to love this show, which throws some of the reality dating franchise’s biggest and loudest personalities together at a tropical resort in Fiji.

You’ll recognise most of the singles straight away, although poor Eden is best remembered as the “break dancing guy” from Sophie Monk’s season and Nina has to remind viewers she was the woman who set the Guinness World Record for the longest on-screen kiss with Sam Wood.

As each date card arrives, there’s one name on it and that person gets to choose who they’d like to spend time with.

It’s pretty obvious from the first episode that the producers are watching all the drama unfold on the camera feed and deciding who will cause the most juicy drama the next day.

All of the contestants are savvy enough to know what’s going on, so at least they’re willing participants in this popularity contest.

At the rose ceremonies either the guys or girls have the power to hand out the roses and there’s always a gender imbalance, meaning someone is going to be rejected on national TV for a second time.

As Eden observes: “It’s the second day in paradise and already we’ve got more drama than a high school musical.”

Once again, Keira Maguire (pictured left) is great entertainment value. She arrives and within minutes says she has already ruled one man out because she “can’t handle” his veneers. Oh snap.

If the paparazzi photos are to be believed, she finds her prince charming in Sophie Monk’s runner-up Jarrod Woodgate. Bachelor in Paradise debuts tomorrow at 7.30pm on Channel 10.
