TRL teams to return from first round pain

-

RUGBY LEAGUE: Two teams that suffered agonising first-up defeats will be looking for revenge tonight.

Highfields play host to Pittsworth this weekend after both went down by just two points.

The Eagles managed to tie their game against Warwick after finding themselves down 20-0, only to concede a late penalty goal.

At home, the Danes skipped out to a handy 12-0 lead in the opening stages, before letting Dalby off the hook, to fall 3230.

Highfields coach Gus McKellar said starting well was a focus for the Eagles in their maiden home game for 2018.

“With our attack we want to improve our patience and ball control,” he said.

“We were clunky early, and early on we have to do the simple things right. We tried to do to much. Line speed in defence will be another factor.

“It’s our first home game, and Pittsworth always travel well with a good crowd.”

Pittsworth coach Ian Brackstone said his side was focusing on getting their own backyard in order for tonight’s clash.

“This round is about us as a team. Highfields has a lot of new players, and Nick Bainbridge didn’t play in the opener, and they’ll be a better team with him,” Brackstone said.

“There’s plenty of character in our team, and we’re going to need that given the closeness of the competition.”
