Weddings a hit with golf club
Couples inspired at venue expo
DANE Harris and Carlie Williams may have only got engaged last week, but they’re wasting no time getting inspired for their wedding.
The happy couple took to the Toowoomba Golf Club, together with the soon-to-be mother of the bride, for the inaugural Wedding Expo to get ideas and venue suggestions.
In a special twist, Ms William’s mother was married at the Middle Ridge venue 28 years ago, but she conceded plenty had changed in the intervening years.
It is those changes the club is hoping to publicise, with head chef Katie Phillips encouraging more couples to seek out the lush greens and clubhouse for weddings.
About 40 interested parties walked through the dining room hall which can comfortably seat 120 guests and still include a dance floor.
“Today was about showcasing our venue because a lot of people don’t know we’re here,” Ms Phillips said.
“We’re doing on average about 40 (weddings) a year here at the moment but would like to see that number increase but it just comes and goes.
“I’ve been here for about a year now so we’re slowly starting to build it back up to where we want it.
“Coming this year hopefully we will get it back up to more around the 70 number.”
Ms Phillips said the expo put the sprawling greens and large venue in focus for couples looking for the perfect setting for their big day.
The gardens and water features, she said, gave a picturesque backdrop for photos.
“We’re more than just a golf club,” she said.
