Titans must learn trust to improve

THE Gold Coast Titans must learn about trust if they want to improve their performances this year.

Trust in themselves, their team-mates and the systems coach Garth Brennan is putting in place at the Gold Coast.

Brennan acknowledged his side came up against a red-hot St George Illawarra Dragons outfit yesterday, but said trust was also costing his team dearly.

“We weren’t good enough today, simple as that,” Brennan said. “Defensively we were a long way off where we needed to be.

“We’re a young football side and people have to understand that.

“We’ve got some new combinations, guys who haven’t played together in the past. There’s probably a little bit of a trust issue there from our guys on the inside to our guys on the edge.

“But that will come with time - for them to be connected they need to trust each other and at the moment we know there’s probably a little bit of a lack of trust there in our defensive line.”

Titans skipper Ryan James said “not accepting mediocracy” would be the key to building trust in the side.

“Making sure everything we do is to the best of our ability,” James said.

“Working every day to be 100 per cent, it starts with yourself and if you know you’re giving 100% then you can give 100% to the team.”
