Support for family after tragic fire

A TWILIGHT vigil will be held tonight for the victims of a heartbreaking house fire which claimed the lives of a father and two of his sons at the weekend.

Kingaroy man Bruce Fisher, 47, and sons Connor Fisher, 2, and 11-month-old Bruce Fisher Jnr, died in the fire which tore through the Kingaroy home on Saturday.

Mr Fisher’s other son Zach, 4, was pulled through a window when three heroic passers-by came across the fire.

His mother Sarah Bond had returned home from a short shopping trip to find the home engulfed in flames.

The Kingaroy community and wider South Burnett region have rallied for the family left devastated by the tragedy, with offers of support and donations flooding in.

The Kingaroy District Ministers Association will host a prayer vigil from 6pm today at the park on River Rd.

Seventh Day Adventist Church pastor Gideon Okesene said the vigil would be open to the whole community.

Family friend Jason Killick called for anyone wanting to donate goods to help Ms Bond and young Zach rebuild their lives after the fire to make an appointment regarding dropoffs and items needed.

Mr Killick, who owns Jason Killick Funerals, is also accepting cash donations for the family.

An online fundraiser has also been established by Ms Bond’s extended family to help the recovery effort.

“You see these things in movies but never in your lifetime would you think it would happen to someone you know and love,” a post about the fund, set up by Ms Bond’s cousin Kimberley Friday, read.

The cause of the fire is yet to be officially determined. Investigators earlier indicated a burning cigarette may have contributed to the blaze.
