FLASHBACK: Rosalie Thun sent in these photos of Pastor Fred Kummerow. The Ordination of Frederich (Fred) Kummerow on Sunday January 24, 1954 was a Memorable day for St. John’s Lutheran congregati­on for on that day, student Fred Kummerow was ordained in the Wilsonton Church. Son of Mr Johann (Jack) and Ida (Mutze) Kummerow, he was the first person from the congregati­on to offer himself for the service of the Lord. A communion set was presented to Pastor Kummerow on behalf of the congregati­on by Mr W. Folker.Fred was born December 15th 1925 in Toowoomba, his primary education was at the State Schools of Woodleight­on, Bowenville and Jondaryan. He attended Colleges Toowoomba Grammar School and Immanuel College, Walkervill­e, Adelaide where he played cricket and rugby league football. He obtained a “college blue” in both sports, which means he got to the highest standard. He studied theology at Immanuel Seminary, North Adelaide 1950-1953. Married Veronica Stolz 1951. He was ordained at St. John’s, Wilsonton, Toowoomba on January 24, 1954 by Pastor C.W. Stolz. Served in the Victor Harbour- Home Mission 1954-1955, Eyre Peninsula Parish of Cleve 1955-1961. Inducted Mount Gambia 7th May 1961-1973. Installed in the Angaston Parish 1974 where he served until his retirement in February 1985. He was awarded an OAM in 1981 for community work and for his services to alcoholics and drug addicts. He was called to leave this life on October 6, 2015.
