Toowoomba driver races to Queensland title win
SPEEDWAY: Toowoomba’s Robert Trapp has won the Queensland title in just his sixth Street Stocks race meeting.
After nearly 25 years of speedway racing Trapp’s recent success at Blackwater’s Coal Capital Speedway was a new career highlight.
“I felt confident heading into the Queensland Title of a strong result, and everything just fell into place for me,” he said.
“During the feature race, I had a little bit of luck go my way, and sometimes you need that, but to have my first win in Street Stocks be my first career Queensland Title is a pretty special moment.”
After qualifying for the Queensland Title feature race from position two in his VT Holden Commodore, Trapp found himself settling into second behind pacesetter Travis Hutchinson and that was where he stayed until about mid-race distance up until Hutchinson retired.
Gifted with the lead following the demise of Hutchinson, Trapp took full of advantage of the opportunity presented to him.
However, he came under immense pressure from Nathan Barbeler for the remainder of the 40-lap event. Despite Barbeler’s best efforts, which he was helped along by some lucky breaks with caution periods upon Barbeler moving briefly into the lead, Trapp managed to hold on and claim the Queensland Title spoils.
