City Golf Club has regained its mantle as Queensland’s finest after acing its rivals at this year’s Queensland Golf Industry Awards presentations.

City reclaimed the award it previously held in 2011 and 2012 after being judged the state’s best all-round contributor to golf in Queensland.

Criteria considered in determining the award includes membership retention and growth, financial performance, clubhouse operations, golf course operations and contributions to the community.

Nine clubs were in contention for the title including Arundel Hills Country Club, Keperra Golf Club, Links Hope Island, Parkwood Golf Club and Southport Golf Club.

City general manager Peter Constance said the club’s industry recognition was built on a broad team effort including those of its 116 employees.

“The award is based on the overall performance of the venue,” Constance said.

“And we couldn’t be prouder accepting that honour on behalf of everyone who helps make that happen and the Toowoomba community.

“We have just hosted the tier-two Queensland PGA Championship for a ninth year as we look to increase the tournament prize-money for its 10th anniversary here next year.

“But the club is contributing and developing all-year round.

“Diversification is a big part of our focus through things like the development of juniors, our commitment to Pennants golf, and the opening of a driving range and mini-golf facility.

“City Golf Club also supports 17 golf clubs in the region.

“We believe that is the highest number of any club in Australia.

“We see supporting other clubs as a way of strengthening the game of golf. We like to do it, because we can.”

Constance said the club was also conscious of its commitment to the people who support it.

“We couldn’t be happier seeing our success ripple through to the community and the local businesses we support,” Constance said.

“We are also lucky to have a president the calibre of Ed Britnell in charge and a board with the vision to continue taking the club forward.

“We believe no other club in Australia matches that commitment.”
