Students get uni Head Start

-

BRIANNA Town started her first year of higher education ahead of the pack, thanks to the University of Southern Queensland’s Head Start program.

Miss Town was still at Harristown State High School when she undertook university classes Accounting for Decision Making and Organisational Behaviour through the program.

It was a decision that paid dividends – she’s hit the ground running as a first-year USQ Bachelor of Business and Commerce student, with the two subjects already counting towards her degree. This means fewer subjects to complete, and a lower HECS debt.

“USQ continually supported me and regularly checked in to see how my studies were going,” Miss Town said.

“The content and methods of teaching was of a very professional standard and delivered in a way that was easy to interpret and digest.

“Every staff member has been approachable and willing to assist in any means they can, making the experience very enjoyable, and that’s why I’m excited to continue studying with USQ.”

Miss Town joined many of her Head Start program classmates at a Graduation Ceremony last week. It marked the official completion of almost 100 students who studied through Head Start in semester two and three last year.

The program offers high-achieving Year 11 and 12 students the chance to undertake university study while finishing high school. Students who successfully complete Head Start gain entry and academic credit into related degrees provided they have met the program prerequisites.
