GOLF: An incredible final day performance has seen Cassie Porter claim more than just the women’s Easter Amateur Classic at the Toowoomba Golf Club yesterday.

The 16-year-old smashed the women’s course record at Middle Ridge, posting a round of 67, three less than the previous mark of 70.

It concluded an incredible weekend for the teenager, who plays off a handicap of +4, after she scored 72 on Saturday.

Porter, a member at the Peregrian Golf Club on the Sunshine Coast, made the annual trip to the Garden City for the third time with her family at the weekend.

She said it was an honour to have her name etched into the history of the club with the new course record.

“It’s our third year coming here and my first win,” Porter said.

“It’s an honour, and it means a lot to come up here and see everyone. My family has been so supportive.

“To put my mark on the course is really good.

“I’m happy with how I played, and it’s good to have that as a result.”

Porter, who is currently studying distance education, is hoping to compete on the grandest stage of them all, as she chases her dream.

“A professional career is something that I want to pursue. I would love to be a successful touring pro, and travel the world doing what I love,” she said.

Her golfing ability has already seen her travel around the country and abroad, something she will be continuing in the near future.

“I travel at the start of each year, and have played in America and Singapore,” she said.

“I’ve played rounds in Texas, Florida and California.

“It was an amazing experience. No words can explain it.

“To see different cultures and how they go about the game was amazing.”

Porter will now head west to compete in the Australian Girls’ Amateur at the Royal

Perth Golf Club.

Local girl Kamryn Dunemann didn’t go home emptyhanded, taking home the net division one title with a score of

143 across the two days.

In the men’s division one title, Lawry Flynn claimed a narrow victory (142), ahead of Cameron Powell (144).
