WHAT was once trash has been transformed into treasure and is set to raise funds for Toowoomba’s sick children.

As part of the Toowoomba Orthodontists Pop Up Pallets Project, schools, community groups and creative residents got on board to transform old pallets.

Toowoomba Hospital Foundation CEO Alison Kennedy said one of the most impressive pieces was a rocking horse made by Ray Monty.

“We had a lovely chap come in, this is something he does for a hobby, and we were really amused at the fact he was going to make a rocking horse,” Ms Kennedy said.

The foundation was impressed by Mr Monty’s intricate work and the other pieces which included a plant holder and furniture.

A total of 30 pieces are set to be auctioned off during a cocktail function in June to raise money for the Give Me 5 For Kids Appeal, for the Toowoomba Hospital’s paediatric unit.

The foundation hopes to raise $75,000 for the appeal this year from about six different events.

Television’s The Block foreman Keith Schleiger will be the special guest on the night and will inspect participants’ pieces prior to the auction.

“The event is going to be a ton of fun, we want people to dress up and obviously come with their pockets full of money and we want them to spend as much as they possibly can on these items,” Ms Kennedy said.

Toowoomba Orthodontists partner Dr Chris Turnock said he was immensely proud to be a part of the event to help sick children.

“We spend our days helping children out with smiles, the least we could do is help them out with their overall health and help keep families together,” he said.

The pallet creations are on display at Grand Central, near Myer, now.

The cocktail evening will be held on June 22 at Blank Space. Tickets are on sale from Monday via the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation website.
