OUR SAY Fantastic fun at Comm Games

I AM fairly into sports even though I haven’t really played anything in years.

The occasional swim, Parkrun and going to the gym is unfortunately the level I am at these days.

But every couple of years I turn into a sporting pro.

I pretty much live and breathe everything about the Olympics and Commonwealth Games.

And on Saturday I finally attended my first Games as an enthusiastic spectator.

It was a pretty perfect day. We had friends drop us where we caught the shuttle bus to the Carrara precinct (a Stonestreets coach to our amusement).

The vibe as we entered for weightlifting was pretty electric – there were food stalls, drink vans and lots of fun activities.

The event itself was great as we got to watch Australian Francois Etoundi take bronze in the men’s 77kg final.

Then we went to the Food & Wine Festival just down the road, which was a nice way to chill out for the afternoon before we went to the women’s hockey.

We got to watch a very close match between South Africa and Malaysia (1-1) and then Australia take on Ghana (5-0).

It was back to work yesterday, watching Allora’s Matthew Denny take silver in the hammer throw and hopefully more Darling Downs athletes to come.

I highly recommend it if you can get across to the Gold Coast and nab some last minute tickets.

It was a fantastic experience, and it is not often we get a chance to be so close to the action.
