Couple to re-open popular pizza store

Westy’s is back after shutting earlier this year

A POPULAR pizza shop west of Toowoomba that shut its doors earlier this year has announced it will re-open within weeks.

In a boost for the local economy of Westbrook, residents Luke and Stacey Schultz revealed on Saturday that Westy’s Pizza would serve customers again from May 9, operating five days a week.

“Get ready Westbrook. Westy’s Pizza will be opening from 9th May. Open Wednesday to Sunday, 4.30pm to 9pm,” the post wrote.

Mrs Schultz said the decision to re-open the popular business was to take advantage of the untapped takeaway market in Westbrook.

“We just thought we should give it a crack. There are no other takeaway places in town and we wanted to do something a bit different,” she told The Chronicle.

“Westbrook has a big collection of families, so that’s what we aiming at. It’s a very untapped market.”

The store has also hired a dozen employees to work at the shop, mostly from the Westbrook area.

Mrs Schultz said she wanted to open from Wednesday to Sunday because she saw that as the biggest days for takeaway food.

Westy’s was closed in January after previous owners Lisa and Gordon Cotterall couldn’t find anyone to take over the business.

“As our attempts to sell the shop have so far not panned out (it’s not a huge money maker, more of a love job with pizza perks) we will be clearing out the shop and all the equipment from January 21 onwards,” the Cotteralls said in a statement.

“Should there be anything of interest to you drop by and have a chat.”

The news of the re-opening has delighted several Westbrook residents on Facebook

“Looking forward to trying them. Hope they are as good as the original Westy’s,” Dotti Harris wrote.
