Thunder women prepare for key clashes after loss

-

FOOTBALL: The next two weeks will show South West Queensland Thunder women’s coach Scott Teakle a lot about his young side.

The winless Thunder face Sunshine Coast Wanderers and Mudgeeraba away from home in “winnable games.”

“We’re making headway every time we train and play,” Teakle said.

“The team and the football we are playing has really improved.

“I think we’ll see just how much in the next two weeks.

“We’ve got two very winnable games. It’ll be interesting to see exactly where we’re at.”

The Thunder lost 8-1 to Moreton Bay United at the weekend – in a game that typified their season to date.

“We’re still naive in our transition,” Teakle said.

“We need to be a lot a sharper in our decision making. If we lose the ball we need to act quicker to win it back – in attack we need to press the advantage better.

“A lot of the girls are very young and that decision making as we transition from one play to the next isn’t quick enough. That sharpness will only come with experience.”

Lions roar

The Thunder men were unable to keep pace with a determined Lions outfit at the weekend.

The first half belonged to the visiting Thunder who took a deserved 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

However Jacob Alexander took the game away from the Thunder with a quick fire hattrick in the second half.

Alexander scored in the 50th, 56th and 62nd minute before Nathan Reardon scored Lions’ fourth.

Kimba Kimbombo (pictured) scored the Thunder’s goal in the 4-1 loss.
