Tasty treats a hit with residents

YOUNG siblings have found a creative way to make sure they can get tickets to the Heritage Bank Toowoomba Royal Show.

James Shum, 10, and Blake Shum, 9, with the help of their little brother Darcy Dowe, 2, are baking fresh chocolate brownies and chocolate banana muffins and selling them to residents, family and friends.

Four brownie pieces are selling for $4.50 and chocolate banana muffins are three for $3.

This is with help of their mum, of course, who is a bit of a baker herself.

Since Sunday the Torrington youngsters have raised more than $70 for their hard work, showing true entrepreneurial spirit.

Mum Nicky Noodle said the boys were proud of their achievements.

“My kids really wanted to go to the show but I haven’t been able to afford to take them for about five years so we were thinking of ways to make a bit of extra money,” she said.

“We decided on baking because the kids love helping me out in the kitchen.

“We thought we’d just do one batch and see how it went. We posted on the buy, swap and sell pages on Facebook and they went in an instant.

“I was initially a bit worried about selling our baked home goods to the public because sometimes selling food from home can cause a backlash but it’s been really good.

“People see it’s about the boys doing something fun and learning about making money.”

James said he really enjoyed baking and selling his tasty treats.

“It’s been fun and we’re happy we can go to the show,” he said.

“We can get a show bag each, some food and go on rides. Mum and dad will probably get a coffee.”

To order some sweets search Nicky Noodle on Facebook or visit one of the Toowoomba buy, swap and sell pages.
