Short refurb for Longs

Hopes for tenants by carnival

CONSTRUCTION will begin this month on the historic Longs building in Toowoomba’s CBD.

McNab Constructions was appointed as lead contractor on the refurbishment job, after a five-member consortium bought the building in September last year.

Colliers International commercial agent Justin Eastwell said the project, called the Longs Quarter, would strip the property back to its original structure.

“The construction company has been appointed and they’re going to start demolishing the added on sections and bring it back to the shell that was originally there,” he said.

“The concept is going to revolve around tenant specifications so we’re not going to restrict things too much yet.

“Downstairs we want retail and food, and of course the upstairs section will be offices.

“The big drawcard is the car parks on site, so we’ve had good interest for the office areas.”

As Planned Group’s Mark Adamson will lead the project, while StruXi Toowoomba handled the design and layout.

Mr Eastwell said residents would notice the changes to the Margaret St frontage first.

“Once they start the construction, we’re going to the Margaret St facade first, and then work back from there,” he said.

“We’d love to have tenants in there in time for Carnival of Flowers, (because) McNab are going to be utilising a lot of the current structure.”
