CRICKET ISSUES

ONE is clearly dismayed at the feeble attempt by some Australians to cheat albeit in front of a camera with a zoom lens.

Get the picture? It’s enough to discourage you from eating ‘Smiths Crisps’ and no longer will Australia be considered a ‘chip’ off the old block.

This is something even a dingo wouldn’t resort to!

Even fielding at silly mid on for the dingo would be harder.

How on Earth does the dingo keep his ‘protector’ on let alone gloves and helmet!

But I surmise the dingo wouldn’t cheat especially being aware of a camera trained upon him.

Money is indeed the root of all evil and cricket is just as corrupt as everything else in this dysfunctional society of ours. T.J. FITZGERALD, Centenary Heights

PESTS

COCKROACH black or brown beetle infesting houses

A lady spoke on a help line on Wednesday night. She said she used a tall open topped bottle, greased inside the bottle with margarine, put in the bottom whatever you liked.

I found success putting in half teaspoon honey and one tablespoon tomato sauce.

Put these bottles around your home inside and outside. This idea will reduce the infestation. This idea is truly a winner!

Check every second day to see the results. Then dispose of the ones in the bottom and replace with honey and sauce as needed. J. LOVELL, Pittsworth

PROPHETIC POLITICS

FOUR and a half months after the election in late 1975, of a government led by Malcolm Fraser, a prediction in the form of a four page leaflet prepared by the then national director of the Australian League of Rights, the late Eric Butler, titled “Fraser Government on the Road to Disaster”, was circulated.

There is one word which sums up what is contained in this leaflet – prophetic!

In the three years of government under the leadership of Gough Whitlam, the aggregate inflation rate was 43.6 per cent, an increase in the cost of living of almost 50 per cent.

Near the end of 1975, a liberal government was elected under the leadership of Malcolm Fraser who was going to “get on top of inflation”.

Upon blubbering his way out of office at the hands of Bob Hawke in March 1983, Mr Fraser’s record was as follows:- aggregate inflation (19761982 inclusive), 72.8 per cent and an increase in taxation from $8.5 billion to $17.5 billion.

Mr Fraser therefore carried on from where Mr Whitlam left off. To put it another way, the more things changed, the more they remained the same!

CRICKET AFFAIR

THE cricketers involved in South Africa (grown mean crying in front of the telly), are like schoolboys caught with their hand in the cookie jar.

To me, it is obvious who is the instigator of the whole affair but he has made some deal with them.

Until they come clean, they deserve what they get. D VAN DE HOEF, Kleinton
