MOVIE: Howl’s Moving Castle SBS VICELAND, 12pm, PG (2004)

This release from the godfather of Japanese animation, Hayao Miyazaki, was greeted with pure joy by his fans. With Miyazaki’s trademark humour, action and surrealism, this is a blockbuster. It is basically a fairytale: when a teenage girl, Sophie, is cursed by a witch, she is transformed into a 90-year-old woman. Ashamed of her appearance, she flees civilisation to the magical moving castle belonging to Howl, a mysterious magician. There she discovers another world, and Miyazaki’s gift for the gloriously grotesque and the wonderfully weird kicks into overdrive.

Bachelor In Paradise WIN, 7.30pm

Can any reality-TV show live up to the addictive, twisting-and-turning drama of

Married At First Sight? Probably not, but you’ve got to hand it to Bachelor In

Paradise for trying. If there’s one thing both shows have in common, it’s a cavalcade of surgically enhanced faces and bodies, which prove strangely difficult to turn your gaze from. Tonight, another love triangle could be about to spark. All eyes are diverted when two new girls enter the fold, with one newcomer vying for a taken Bachelor’s affections. As tensions flare, the producers inject some lightheartedness with a footy match featuring local kids.
