Zoe reaches graduation finish line
AN AFTERNOON jog completely changed the course of Zoe Sengstock’s life.
Amidst a crisis of confidence about her chosen career path (studying theatre in Brisbane), Ms Sengstock went for a run to clear her mind.
“I said to myself ‘oh, exercise actually makes me feel so much better. It’d be great if I could learn about this and just help people’. It was my epiphany,” she said.
Now, four years later, Ms Sengstock works at a gym in Dalby and is about to graduate from the University of Southern Queensland with a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise (Sport and Exercise Science).
She’ll be among USQ’s newest batch of alumni following graduation ceremonies at the Clive Berghofer Centre this Friday. The events will celebrate the achievements of students from the study disciplines of Health and Community, Sciences and Engineering and Built Environment.
Ms Sengstock’s education journey has taken her from Maryborough to Toowoomba via Brisbane, ultimately settling in the Western Downs; at every stage she embraced university life.
It was Ms Sengstock’s practical study placements that had the most profound influence – as a personal trainer with her own client, to joining the support team of the Mountaineers basketball team.
“We did a series of strength and agility programs with the Mountaineer players with an ongoing evaluation process to check their progress. We also did injury rehab or injury prevention,” she said.
“It was challenging at first, but very cool.”
