Warwick, Chown shine on big stage

RUGBY LEAGUE: The TRL was treated to a number of key fixtures at the weekend, and as always, the big names stepped up. Andrew O’Brien from At The Footy with Obee and Cookie on Power FM was on hand at Cahill Park to call the Gatton and Warwick fixture.

He was impressed with the Cowboys making it back-toback wins.

“Warwick are looking very good. It was a hot day and the conditions played their part,” O’Brien said.

“The Sullivan boys (Ben and Harry) and Dan Murphy really ran havoc around their big forwards, and Joe Fuimaono played havoc on the left side of Gatton.

“Gatton was very disappointing after a statement game the week before.

“Mick Bloomfield was very good and smart in what he had done. He was always going to the left side and wide of the ruck, which ran them down.”

With the upcoming 47th Battalion weekend, O’Brien said the Warwick captain turned in a cracking performance.

The crew also ventured to Herb Steinohrt Oval on Saturday night, as Valleys downed an understrength Wattles side.

“Both sides hung onto the ball, but the difference was Dylan Chown,” he said.

“He scored three great tries, tackled well, and put his hand up to take over from Jackson Green. He had play of the day and was named man of the match.

“Wattles toiled well. Josh Henry and Dale Perkins played well, and I thought Andrew Richardson did as well.

“Young Lollback made his Agrade debut and didn’t die wondering.”

Around the grounds, a new half for the Oakey Bears has been tagged by O’Brien as a player to watch in the coming weeks after making the jump from reserve grade.

“Sione Tuimoala scored two tries against Dalby, and to do that against them is all good for an improving Oakey,” he said.

“Pittsworth had a terrible completion rate against Gatton, and with no Daniel York or Cam Millar, it was amazing they won so convincingly, es- pecially after Goondiwindi looked the goods against Warwick.”

A breakout game for the Valleys Fillies also caught the eye of O’Brien, as they pushed one of the country’s leading women’s team to their limits.

“The Fillies played a top side and had a really good showing,” he said.

“The ladies were happy and so was the coach, and they just missed out.”

At The Footy with Obee and Cookie will call Oakey vs Gatton and Wattles vs Dalby.
