First adventure tourism, next - Google

- SUSAN HARTLAND news@thechronicle.com.au

PLANS to put Toowoomba and the Darling Downs on the map as an “adventure tourism” destination deserve consideration.

Those of us fortunate enough to live in this fabulous part of the state already know what the region has to offer.

A plan for adventure tourism plays to our strengths: We have wonderful parks and escarpment areas perfect for mountain biking.

But that aside: There’s something else we could push for.

Now I’m going to be a little bit cheeky.

While we’re looking at future industries for Toowoomba, let’s invite Google to set up its head office here.

The tech giant is seeking a place for its headquarters in Australia after the NSW Government knocked back its latest plan. Now there are fears Google will look interstate. Why not Toowoomba? Today the new Pulse Data Centre will be opened (see our story on page two).

It’s a game-changing centre using state-of-the-art design structure and technology and highlights FKG’s forward thinking.

Joe Craparotta, IT division and strategic segments vice president at Schneider Electric, the global expert in developing secure data centres, notes the centre “breaks the mould” where there has been a school of thought that data centres need to be in major centres.

So how about it, Google? Forget Sydney and head up the Range.
