Five things we learnt in council

AFTER a jam-packed series of meetings this week at the Toowoomba Regional Council, here are five things we learnt.

1. GARDENS CONSULTANT

THE council has appointed a consultant to carry out the feasibility study for the Quarry Gardens, nearly six months since the funding was committed by the State Government.

The Palaszczuk Government offered $250,000 to the council to carry out the study, which would determine whether the long-term legacy project could go ahead.

The first meeting and site visit was held on March 28.

2. MASTER PLANNING

THE second round of consultation with residents over the Highfields Town Centre Master Plan finished last month.

Planning and development group Stewart Somers told councillors more than 260 people gave feedbacks at workshops, on Facebook or by mail. The council was briefed on the feedback yesterday.

3. WASTE

MORE undocumented waste has been found in Toowoomba region dumps, this time in Evergreen and Cecil Plains. Water and waste general manager Damian Platts said the unknown rubbish prompted a further investigation into a previous discovery at Kleinton, with even more waste found.

4. FIVEWAYS WORK

ROAD and drainage works at the fiveways intersection on Mort St has been completed by the council. Landscaping between the fiveways and Black Gully has started and will be finished by the end of the month.

5. QUEENS BATON PARTY

MORE than 1000 people helped celebrate the entrance of the Queen’s Baton Relay into the Toowoomba City Library on March 28.
