Lockyer Valley pulls out of AFLDD for 2018
The DDAFL competition has taken a hit ahead of the senior season starting on Saturday, with the announcement of the Lockyer Valley Demons pulling all senior and junior sides out of the competition for the year.
AFL Darling Downs president Leigh Riseley said the situation was unfortunate, but was hopeful of a return in 2019.
“The club had some issues with participation, and a few volunteer problems, and they wouldn’t be able to financially support themselves for the upcoming season,” Riseley said.
“We’re keen to have them back next year. AFLQ is putting an effort into schools with Auskick programs and school programs and has been instrumental in creating a grant to get women’s facility infrastructure built at the AFL ground.”
The Lockyer Valley Demons made the news public through a statement from president Donna Bowers on their Facebook page yesterday.
It read: “This will ONLY (sic) be for the 2018 season and we will be using this year to rebuild the teams for 2019.
“We will however be running AFL9s for 14yrs and over and AFLX for 16s and seniors this season, as advertised, so I hope that all of you get onboard with this to assist in the rebuild.
“For any juniors looking to play, we have an arrangement with the Fernvale Rattlers AFC who will look after our kids for the season so they are ready to come back for next season.”
