Toowoomba is helping spearhead a new campaign designed to share the excitement of oztag with more people. Kicking off this Sunday Toowoomba Oztag will host their first Tag-a-Buddy day. The free event was designed to introduce people to the family-friendly sport. “Everyone who participates in the promotion receives a special tag,” Toowoomba Oztag representative Luke King said. “If you bring that tag and a friend along the next week you are eligible for discounts on your registration fee if you opt to sign up for the next competition. “What we’re trying to do is provide a free and fun way for people to experience and enjoy the sport. King said oztag was a game that caters for all age and ability groups. “Oztag is a fantastic sport the whole family can play,” he said. “It’s a very friendly level competition everyone can enjoy – in our senior mixed competition a lot of the sides have young players and it’s very evenly matched. “It’s a game that you can play casually or take very seriously. We have a great competition here, a really good atmosphere and everyone loves playing the game.” GET ON BOARD: The first Toowoomba Oztag Tag-aBuddy day will be held this Sunday at Brothers Rugby League ground from 23.30pm. There is no cost and players should wear joggers or football boots. Oztag is similar to touch football. Players wear a special belt with two velcro tags – the removal of a tag by an opposition players counts as a touch.
