Couple was meant to be together
BOB and Margaret Denny first met at a Toowoomba ball and quickly discovered they were meant to be together.
After getting married on April 20, 1968, the couple has now celebrated their 50th golden wedding anniversary.
Margaret Mitchell was the only child of Eileen and Bruce Mitchell, born in Bowenville in 1943, while Robert Denny was the only child of Monica and James Denny, born in Toowoomba in 1945.
Margaret went to Holy Name Primary School and later became a boarder at St Ursula’s College.
After school Margaret worked at law firm, Clewett, Corser and Drummond, and later became a muchloved secretary at St Ursula’s College.
Bob went to Holy Name Primary School and later St Mary’s Christian Brothers College. He excelled at all sports, particularly football. Bob worked for Falconer Motors where he gained his mechanical apprenticeship and went on to work there for more than 40 years.
The pair was married at Holy Name Church where the priest was Margaret’s uncle Father Matt Garvey. The reception was at Picnic Point.
Their first child Susan was born in 1969 and was followed by Christine, John, Steven, Paul and Catherine.
Bob and Margaret built a family based on integrity, honesty, respect and faith in a loving and nurturing home life.
Commitment to their faith and the values they placed on their bond of marriage is what has kept their relationship so strong, along with their strong commitment to family.
They have 18 grandchildren; William, Daniel, Olivia, Grace, Georgia, Annie, Ella, Joseph, Mitchell, Hamish, Michael, Kate, Thomas, Claudia, Matthew, Harriet, James and Vanessa.
