Young futsal players claim third straight Queensland title

-

FUTSAL: South West Queensland is establishing themselves as a girls’ futsal powerhouse after claiming a third straight state title.

Having won the past two under-15 state titles, SWQ stepped up to the under-17 division this year to secure their hat-trick.

Coach Craig Lockwood said the same core of players had featured in all three title wins.

“It’s good to see they’re enjoying the game,” Lockwood said.

“I love seeing it when they come back year after year.

“Every year they go away and say they’re just going to have a bit of fun and I think that’s the most important thing. They’re a good bunch of girls with a great attitude.”

Uniting as a team was the key factor in the team’s success, according to Lockwood.

“I think we won our games purely based on the fact we played as a team,” he said.

“We always had each others back that was the important thing.

“Regardless of the score, they knew that if they played together and as a unit that they would be successful.

“Whether they won the game or not, didn’t really matter to them, they just went out there had fun and played with the right attitude.”

That attitude and their title success also helped the squad win off the court with six girls named in the Queensland U17 training squad and one in the U15 side.
