Bombers soar with back-to-back wins
AUSSIE RULES: South Toowoomba has continued its hot start to the Allied Pickford Cup with a 16.8 (104) to 11.8 (74) victory over the South Burnett Saints at Heritage Oval.
Mitchell Simpson booted home seven goals to take his season tally to 10, as the Bombers capitalised on a dominant first quarter to take the spoils.
It gives the Bombers their second success of the season following a big win over Toowoomba in the opening round, and sets up a showdown with the Warwick Redbacks, coming off their second consecutive 100-point victory.
Anthony Rixon earnt best on ground honours as the Redbacks punished the Highfields Lions at Kratzke Oval, taking a 19.19 (133) to 4.9 (33) win.
Coolaroo got off the mark in style, claiming a 12.9 (81) to 9.8 (62) win over the Goondiwindi Hawks at Rockville Oval.
Miels Grice kicked five goals for the home side, with David O’Toole producing the same number in defeat for the Hawks.
USQ brought up their second win in as many games, downing Chinchilla 32.14 (206) to 3.3 (21).
In the women’s Westpac Cup, the Toowoomba Tigers showed why they are the team to beat, recording a 13.12 (90) to 1.4 (10) victory over the USQ Cougars.
Jillian Smolenski and Rosie Parsons each bagged four goals.
South Toowoomba responded from their first-round loss to the Tigers with a big 16.16 (112) to 1.1 (7) victory against South Burnett.
The Bombers had nine individual goal-scorers in the contest, led by Zali Brunner with three.
