Thunder out of FFA Cup

-

FOOTBALL: The SWQ Thunder’s FFA Cup campaign has been bought to an end but the club’s spirit remains strong.

Playing host to the Gold Coast Knights on Saturday night the NPL side lost 2-1 but assistant team manager Kris Hemmerling said the mood in the squad is positive.

“We’re really excited ahead of our next NPL game against Cairins,” Hemmerling said.

“We lost to Gold Coast on Saturday but we think they’re actually better than some of the NPL sides we have faced.

“The important thing is the boys have turned in some really good performances lately.

“The young players we’ve introduced to the side have really stepped up.

“They’re looking very accomplished and deserving of their spot.”

Aside from the first 15 minutes of the match Hemmerling believed the Thunder dominated the match.

“They (Gold Coast) were pretty good for the first 15 minutes,” he said.

“We just didn’t shut down their player who scored the first goal. After that I thought we were the better team we were just a bit unlucky on the scoreboard.”

Key Thunder defender Keagan Sheridan featured in the loss after a long absence from the team.

“It was great to welcome Keagan back into the side,” Hemmerling said.

“Riley Lobwein was unavailable due to work commitments which gave us the opportunity to bring Keagan back into the side.”
