RUGBY LEAGUE: South West Mustangs positions in three grades will be on the line this weekend when TJRL representatives head to Warwick for selection trials.

A total of 45 players will make the trip south across the U13, U14 and U16 divisions to trial alongside the best from Warwick and District, Roma and District, and Western Downs.

TJRL representative coorindator Troy Huggins said he was confident of a strong showing on Saturday.

“I think they can represent in huge numbers,” Huggins said.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if three quarters of the team wasn’t made up from the Toowoomba side.

“This crop of juniors is very good. They are one of the best groups over the last three years.”

The junior sides were freshened up with a hit-out against the Warwick and District Chargers at the weekend, and Huggins said the combinations formed throughout trial games will help them push.

“They’ve had a trial against South Burnett and played against Ipswich and the Gold Coast,” he said.

“There has been a variance of playing against bigger kids and older kids. They’re big at age 13 and 14 on the Gold Coast and they stepped up to the mark.

“You can pinch yourself when they perform well against them.”

The boys aren’t the only ones with the opportunity to impress this weekend, with trials being held for the U14s and U16s girls for South West Mustangs spots.
