Toowoomba test for rising filly

RACING: Emerging Toowoomba filly Mishani Vaidra will have her progress put to a stern test when she chases a hattrick of wins at Clifford Park tomorrow.

The lightly raced threeyear-old is out to continue her rise through the ranks for trainer Ben Currie in the Joe Wagner Group Class 4 Handicap (1625m).

Mishani Vaidra proved to be a class above her rivals last time out at Bunya Park when she overcame a slow start to score a runaway Class 2 Plate win over 1400 metres for jockey Beau Appo who is on board again tomorrow.

But waiting for Mishani Vaidra this week is a seasoned field headed by in-form top weight American Frontier from the Michael Nolan stable.

American Frontier was a Burgess Park Class 1 winner over 1400 metres two runs back.

The four-year-old stepped in class and distance last start to a metropolitan class midweek event at Clifford Park and put up a bold front-running display for Skye Bogenhuber before being collared late for third behind Sweet Adaline and Brains.

Mishai Vaidra heads a strong Currie line-up on the seven race Clifford Park card.

The stable’s 10-horse entry list includes lightly raced three-year-old Crusher and Top Luck.

Crusher resumes from a four-month break in the Carlton Dry Benchmark 65 Handicap (870m) after placing at her latest run at Doomben in January.

Top Luck — a half sister to 2016 Pat O’Shea Plate winner Pure Luck — will be looking to avenge second placings at her only two starts when she lines up in the Vanderfield John Deere QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate (1200m).

Top Luck started $2.80 favourite last time out when second behind booming TwoYear-Old Handicap winner Spirit’s Choice at Bunya Park.

■ TOOWOOMBA apprentice Ruby Ride competes for the final time as a junior rider at Clifford Park tomorrow with three rides on the card.

Ride’s apprenticeship winds up next Thursday.

Country racing

BURRANDOWAN Picnic Race Club’s legendary race day and a feature Allman Park program both figure tomorrow on a busy southern Queensland country racing day.

The annual Burrandowan meeting is highlighted by the Clovelly Wines Burrandowan Cup which has attracted a seven-horse Benchmark 50 Handicap field headed by Our Clarky for Oakey trainer Bradley Hudson.

Warwick Turf Club’s card has extended to six races headed by a class line-up contesting the Ergon Energy Battle Of The Bush Qualifier (1100m).

Klammer tops the Open Handicap weights.
