Return to Rural Weekly after a decade absence
RURAL Weekly welcomes a new reporter this edition.
Kirili Lamb will cover the premium core pages of Rural
Weekly, bringing stories of interest to readers right across the publication’s reach, covering all regions from northern New South Wales, across Queensland and into the Northern Territory.
A former writer for Mackay’s Daily Mercury, MidWeek, Rural
Weekly and Industry Hub, she has reported across a wide range of industries and interest groups, including sugar producers and processors, engineering and mining, horticulture and alternative croppers, community and cultural news.
Kirili has also been involved in teaching sustainable gardening to young people and the broader community through volunteer work with Mackay Community Garden, and spent last year studying sustainable land management practices through a Permaculture Design Certificate course run by world-renowned permaculturist Geoff Lawton.
She said she was looking forward to connecting with rural communities across northern Australia, and broadly sharing their stories through the new broader Rural
Weekly online platforms. “Northern Australia’s agricultural sector continues to offer huge potential reaching out to meet the growing world demand for quality, sustainably produced foods, fuels and fibres,” she said. “As a region, we continue to produce outstanding ideas in terms of new approaches to water and land management, production and processing, that, if embraced and developed, have the potential to make Australia a world leader in meeting that demand.”
Kirili encouraged anyone with a story to share to email her at kirili.lamb@ruralweekly.com.au.
