POWER POUTS
PLAY WITH DEEP, RICH TONES TO UPDATE YOUR BEAUTY BAG FOR THE COOLER MONTHS
If you want to make a statement in autumnal hues, a bold lip will get you plenty of double-takes.
Who doesn’t love the chic, teethwhitening properties of a candy-apple red or a spiced plum, or the way a certain shade can make someone say, “that really brings out the colour in your eyes”?
The Lip Lab and Ultimate Beauty House owner Tracey De Tert says a powerful pout will get you noticed, but make sure it’s for the right reasons.
“The best advice I can give is don’t be afraid to experiment with colour – wear it and enjoy it,” she says.
“Lipstick can give you confidence, look amazing and compliment your outfit as well as your own beauty.”
Tracey says to start by choosing a shade that works for your skin tone.
“Experiment with colour to find what suits you best,” she says.
“I personally love deeper shades for winter: plums, deep reds, deep pinks, any deeper shade that adds a pop of colour.”
Tracey urges lipstick lovers not to go too light with their hue.
“If your lipstick is too light it will make your lips disappear. Instead, choose a soft pinky nude tone.”
If you want to achieve a “barely there look”, Tracey recommends going for lip stains or glosses.
Avoid crossing completely to the dark side. Black lipstick is a no-go, so cheer up emo kid.
“Please ladies, don’t wear black lipstick unless it’s for a costume,” Tracey says.
“It instantly washes out your face, making you look lifeless.
“If you want to go for a dramatic look, dark burgundy, plums or blood reds give a much more vampy and classy result.”
Ace your base by making sure your lips are healthy and hydrated before you apply lippy.
“When it comes to winter; think dewy, think moisturising and think hydrating formulas,” Tracey says.
“Choose lipstick bases that are not so drying on the lips. If the (bold lip) is all still a little too much for you, start off with either a stain or tint or a coloured gloss.”
