‘Close knit group’ enjoys 30-year reunion

-

ABOUT 70 people gathered in Toowoomba for the Harristown State High School’s Class of ’88 30-year reunion.

Reunion co-organiser Helen Duck said the class was a particularly close-knit group and so it was no surprise to see friends from Perth, Melbourne and Adelaide fly in for the evening.

“We are a very close-knit group and we’ve got each other’s backs even after all these years,” Ms Duck said.

“My best friend flew in from Perth and I hadn’t seen her since 1988.

“It was just a special night and we wanted to make it special, especially for those who had travelled so far.”

The attendees arrived to a red carpet reception with a 1980s music play list playing throughout the night.

Adding even more nostalgia to the night, organisers arranged to have some old school tuck shop favourites on the menu.

“The chef thought I was quite strange when I requested a sausage roll in a hot dog roll with barbecue sauce on the canapé menu,” Ms Duck said.

“On the tuck shop menu in the 80s this gourmet delicacy was called a ‘three-in-one’.

“We also had those little packets of French fries and little packets of Ovaltine.

“We had an awards ceremony with some silly awards which was fun.”

Ms Duck said in one of the more “sensible” moments of the night came when the hat was passed around.

“We raised just over $400 for the school’s P&C,” she said.

“It was good to give back to the school which did so much for us.”
