Warriors out to roll Danes

RUGBY LEAGUE: Wattles are one of the form teams in the TRL Premiership after posting a string of big wins together, and they’ll be looking to claim another scalp when they head to Pittsworth tomorrow.

After picking up five wins from their opening six games, confidence is sky high at the club, but coach Travis Burns said his side can’t get complacent coming up against a hungry Danes side.

“They’re a quality side and were grand finalists last year,” Burns said.

“They are well coached and it’s going to be a tough game. We don’t take any side easily. If you’re off against any team they can roll you.

“We’re worried about what we do so we can play the way we want to play. Possession is a big thing for us. If we can complete high we know we will be in the game right to the death, and blokes like Matt (Duggan) will do the rest when the game is on the line.”

Despite picking up wins over Dalby and Highfields before the 47th Battalion break, Burns said the week off came at a good time for the club.

“It’s probably come around at a good time for us. Some coaches say the bye can come at bad time when you’re winning,” he said.

“We had a few boys carrying injuries and a tough start to the year. We’ve played some of the top sides over the last few weeks, and they were both physically and mentally big games.”

Wattles will welcome all six Clydesdales players back into their 17, as they maintain their same starting 13 from their victory over Highfields in round six.

Burns said it was a bonus to be able to keep the same starters on the paddock as they make a finals charge.

“It’s massive to be able to get combinations going and for blokes confidence,” he said.

“In the TRL if you take the two best players out of any team, it’s a different game. It comes down to a bit of luck, and we’ve been having a bit of luck with injuries, and touch wood it can stay that way leading up to the finals.

“All our rep players have come back with a spring in their step. It shows the depth in the squad we have got and hopefully they can bring that intensity back.”

Pittsworth isn’t without their own share of representatives, with Daniel York and James Dempsey returning to the line-up after their efforts against the best in the region.

There have been two changes to the starting 13 announced for the Danes, with Cameron Millar filing the hooking duties and Todd White replacing Dan Carpenter in the front row.
