Experience buoys Fillies heading into home clash

-

RUGBY LEAGUE: David McColl is under no illusion that his Valleys Fillies face a tough task against the ladder leading Easts Tigers.

However he has full faith in his side to take the fight to their more fancied rivals, and for good reason.

This will be the Fillies first encounter since the 47th Battalion, and he said the attitude amongst the playing group has been exceptional at training in the lead up to the important fixture.

“After the experience they gained last week and how they toughed it out, they’ve come back to training hitting the ground and raring to go,”

McColl said.

“For the whole of them that got picked their attitude has changed completely. It’s more professional and they want to do everything at the top pace.

“They want to know every move and have come back with a professional attitude.

“Even for the younger players that haven’t made rep sides it is starting to filter down to them. They see a bright future for the Fillies and Valleys want to tie them up for a few years.”

The Fillies almost pulled off one of the upsets of the season when the sides met in the second round, before a late charge from the Tigers snatched the win.

“We went down there and we had them done, but they got us late,” he said.

“Inexperience cost us the game.”

Today’s game kicks off at 4pm at Herb Steinohrt Oval.
