Yo Diddle Diddle bring beloved nursery rhyme to life

-

COW, Cat and a dog named Houston are set to bring the farm to life in a hip-hop infused adventure as two performances of Yo Diddle Diddle are performed on the Empire Theatre stage.

The story will come to live on stage on Tuesday, May 22 with one performance at 9.30am and another at 11.30pm.

Exploring the theme of resilience, the fun-filled Yo Diddle Diddle is the first work by Patch’s new Artistic Director Naomi Edwards.

The show is inspired by the hilarious rhyme and rhythm of Tony Wilson and Laura Wood’s book The Cow Tripped Over the Moon.

Yo Diddle Diddle director Naomi Edwards said she wanted to make a show that explored resilience.

“Cow dreams of the impossible, she wants to jump the moon. When I found Tony Wilson’s book The Cow Tripped Over the Moon, I knew I had found our inspiration,” she said.

Multi award winning producer DJ TR!P takes to the stage as ‘Houston’ the DJ’ing dog.

He is joined by a cast including Jo Stone as ‘Cat’ and Ashton Malcolm as ‘Cow’.

“We decided early on that the only melody we would use in the show was the melody of the traditional nursery rhyme,” Naomi said.

Yo Diddle Diddle is the first of four works by Naomi, the new artistic director who has spent the past two years researching the core values of what children need to succeed.

Patch Theatre also recruited Professor Martin Westwell from Flinders University as ‘Scientist in Residence’ to work on the show and bring the latest thinking in resilience and executive function to the theatre making process for children.
