Good shows of bass off edges at Wivenhoe Dam

- WITH KRIS GEORGE FROM FISH ’N’ BITS BAIT & TACKLE

COOBY DAM

COOBY’S getting less attention as the colder weather settles in.

There’s still a good bite period late afternoon when the water temperature is at its highest.

Keeping blades and your bait close to the bottom is key for this time of year when the yellowbelly start to shut down.

SOMERSET DAM

SOMERSET’S still been a a struggle this past week.

Finding the thermocline close to the bottom is a must as this where a lot of the bait is sitting.

Keeping your spoons and plastics close to this area is key.

A slow roll or a high lift with a tight line has had most of the success.

Pelican Point and out from Happy Clappers is holding some great fish.

WIVENHOE DAM

THERE’S been some good shows this last week at Wivenhoe of some great bass coming off the edges.

As Somerset releases water it can only mean one thing — bass and yellowbelly moving up onto the edge looking for new ground and bait.

Casting Jerkbaits like the Jackall Squirrel have landed some great fish.

Also casting TN’s and spinnerbaits over the deeper weed will be an ideal technique for these fish.

COPETON DAM

THIS weekend is going to be the pick of the times to hit the water at Copeton.

With the start of the week being the new moon and the last few days having some great frosts around the dam, it can only get better this weekend.

Top water and larger swimbaits are going to be the make or break as this is when they shine with theses conditions.

With water levels still dropping from environmental releases it is probably a wise choice to fish the main body of water in the basin.

Any shallow bank or point holds giants. You just have to keep casting.

PINDARI DAM

LAST weekend saw some awesome top-water action at Pindari.

The quality of fish wasn’t there but the smaller fish were quite aggressive.

With water clarity being very good in the main basin, it’s best to throw baits that maybe aren’t the noisiest, like a floating glide bait or swimbait rather than a crawler or something that pushes a lot of water.

GOLD COAST BROADWATER/ INSHORE

THERE is some great fishing to be had this coming weekend on the coast.

Squire and large bream are showing up in some numbers in the Seaway.

Lightly weighted pilchards will be your best bet.

The 18 and 24 fathom reefs have seen larger snapper and reef fish willing to take a bait or lure.

Large soft plastics like the Gulp Jerk Shads or a whole pilchard will give you the most success.
