RUGBY LEAGUE: One of the Valleys Fillies’ brightest prospects will continue her dream path to the top tomorrow when she heads to Mackay to represent the Emerging Central Crows against the Emerging Northern Marlins ahead of the QRL State Championships.

Selection in the side continues a meteoric rise for the 17year-old Reeghyn Beardmore from St George, who has relished her football journey to date.

Beardmore has been a part of the Valleys Fillies A-grade side in 2018, coming up against current Jillaroos players on a regular basis, and she said that had contributed to her goal of making it to the highest level in the game.

“I want to take rugby league as far as I can,” she said.

“I didn’t expect to be in the Crows side this early. Everything that has come in has been a bonus.

“I’m going to keep working hard towards what I want and see how far it will get me.

“I’ve been playing Jillaroos players nearly every week. They inspire me a bit.”

En-route to this weekend’s championships, Beardmore had the chance to play alongside Jillaroo champion Steph Hancock in Toowoomba, an opportunity she has taken on board.

“The experience brought to the field and calm,” she said.

“It brought my confidence level up. You don’t feel nervous she she’s having her beside you.”

As well as making representative sides, Beardmore referees in the Roma competition, which she said has given her a different perspective on the game.

Valleys Fillies coach David McColl spotted Beardmore as a young player, and said he knew she would turn into something special down the track.

“She caught my eye when she was a 12-year-old,” McColl said.

“I invited her to come down with the state side and we went through undefeated and as a 13-year-old she got player of the carnival.

“Reeghyn is one of the young ones I’m really looking forward to seeing when going over to England. She’s going to get some good recognition. She has a level head, and always comes and ask how to improve her game.

“No other team is going to get her. For such a young girl she has an old head on her shoulders.”
