BOXING: Toowoomba boxers head to all points in coming weeks looking to retain winning 2018 momentum.

Emerging super lightweight Chris Brackin heads a trio of Smithy’s Gym fighters returning to the ring this month when he travels to Tweed Heads next Saturday to take on Nambucca Heads rumbler Dan Beverly.

Recent Toowoomba arrival Jaydii Kalambe also lines up next Saturday when he looks to add to his winning pro record against Kyle Freiberg on the Worlds Collide 7 card in Brisbane.

Stablemate Brent Moore is first into the ring when he takes on Matt Hartmann in Caboolture tomorrow night.

The bout will be Moore’s 10th professional bout as he comes off a lengthy break following his victory over fellow Toowoomba fighter Maks Chylewski in November.

“I’m looking forward to kick starting my year against Matt Hartmann,” Moore said.

“I’ve had some time off after back-to-back bouts with Maks Chylewski last year and I’m raring to go.

“I have to go into his backyard but that doesn’t faze me. I’ve been well travelled in my career so far and at the end of the day when the bell rings it doesn’t really matter.

“It’s just me and him and the best man will win.”

Brackin is shaping as one of Toowoomba’s hottest recent ring prospects and is looking to make it four undefeated pro wins when he faces Beverly.

The 19-year-old Stanthorpe junior ended his first two bouts early before being taken the distance by Kurt Finlayson at Rumours in March.

Brackin survived a split decision and is now putting that close call down to a timely experience as he looks to continue his rise through the ranks.

Beverly is well known to Toowoomba boxing followers.

He has fought both Steve Spark and Australian champion Brent Rice in the city and is a renowned for his walk-up style.

“Kurt Finlayson is a world champion kick-boxer and he was a good stepping stone for me,” Brackin said this week.

“It was a really tough fight and I learnt a lot from it.

“Just his experience and his maturity, but I pushed through it and got the win and I’m ready for the next one.

“Every fight is getting harder and I believe this one will be my hardest one so far.

“It’s my first one out of Toowoomba since I was an amateur.

“It’s in his backyard, but it’s definitely exciting.

“New opportunities open up and it’s on Fox Sport too, so that’s going to be good getting my name out there.

“I’m just hoping to put on a good show for everyone.

“At the end of the day it comes down to me and him to find the best man.”

Kalambe is looking to add to his pro debut win in March.

“I think this is going to be a good challenge for me,” Kalambe said.

“That’s what I’m looking for. “I want to challenge myself.”
