COUNTRY cooks across Australia are crossing their fingers and toes after Devondale announced it is “assessing a potential reintroduction” of its popular long-life cream.

In February, the Rural

Weekly broke news of the dairy giant’s decision to discontinue the product.

After the announcement, cooks throughout the country were up in arms, claiming the cream was the only suitable product for those cooking in rural and remote areas.

In a statement on its Facebook page, Devondale said the cream was discontinued last year after the factory in Tasmania where it was manufactured was closed.

“We are now working on replicating production capability at another site,” the statement read.

“This process will take some time, but our hope is that the product may be available again later this year.

“Our new owner, Saputo, is willing to invest to support this. Consumers have taken to social media in huge numbers and contacted us directly to tell us about the special qualities of this product, including its ability to be whipped.

“People living in and visiting remote areas have made clear that the product was an essential staple of their kitchens.”

The announcement has been liked more than 2400 times and shared by more than 600 people.

Country cooks took to social media to share their joy about the long-life cream’s possible return.

“We miss your product so much and no other cream comes as close for its versatility, ”said Elisa Stewart.
