A GLENVALE woman has been sentenced to nine months in jail after being caught with 28 stolen handbags, among other offences.

The luxury brand items were found in Louise Joyce Campbell’s possession after a police search of her property last year, but police could not verify where they were stolen from.

The handbag-haul was valued at an estimated $4000, according to police prosecutor Al Windsor.

Appearing in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court via video-link yesterday, Campbell pleaded guilty to the charges of possessing and receiving tainted property and almost 20 other unrelated charges.

The court heard at the time of the other offences, Campbell had recently been granted parole by the Supreme Court.

The other matters the Glenvale mum was appearing on before Magistrate Kay Ryan yesterday relate to searches of her property that located a taser and $1100 in cash police alleged was obtained through drug-related activities.

The money was found among Campbell’s dirty laundry.

Campbell was also facing a charge for driving while disqualified in Bowenville last year.

The disqualification period ran until March 2019, though she believed it had already expired.

Her defence solicitor Brad Skuse said his client had “stopped caring about herself ” after a relationship breakdown and had issues with drug use which had led to the offending.

The court heard how during her 105 days in remand, Campbell had completed a number of education and rehabilitation courses.

Magistrate Ryan sentenced her to nine months in jail, to be suspended after 105 days for a period of 18 months, fined Campbell $1000 and disqualified the Toowoomba mum from driving for a further two years.
