BMX: The wheels have begun turning on Toowoomba BMX Club’s plan to cover its Wilsonton track and facilities with a Sunsmart roof structure.

The ambitious $2.6 million project would provide Toowoomba with the only BMX complex currently outside of Darwin with a roof covering.

Government, corporate, business and private funding is being sought for the venture and with donations already received the club is moving towards an early planning stage.

Toowoomba Ole Skool Krome this week weighed in with a $1000 donation which will help fund a business plan/ case for the project.

Club spokesperson David Budden said interest and backing for the unique all-weather racing facility was beginning to gather momentum.

“Interest in the roof proposal is growing,” Budden said.

“The $1000 donation from Ole Skool Krome is a great kick start and with other local businesses also coming forward with donations that money will go towards us lodging a business plan/case.”

Toowoomba’s Ole Skool Krome accepts gold coin donations at its monthly car, truck and motor bike gathering at BMS, Carrington Rd it then passes on to selected charities and fund-raisers in the city.

“We choose a charity or recipient to pass our collections onto and we’re pleased to be assisting the BMX roof project this time around,” Ole Skool spokesperson Warren Bradford said.

“I used to race BMX years ago at Willow Springs and my sons used to race here as well.

“It’s something our kids need and this track provides the city with an important facility.

“To be able to cover it with a roof would provide an amazing venue and it’s great to be able to help back the idea.”
