THUNDER STRIKE FOUR PAST ROAR
Grant double seals victory
FOOTBALL: Brisbane Roar had no answers against a determined and disciplined SWQ Thunder at the weekend.
In contrast the Thunder turned in their best performance of the season on their way to an impressive 4-0 win at Clive Berghofer Stadium on Saturday.
The Thunder had all the early running with Travis Cooper’s looping header finding the roof of the Roar net in the 15th minute.
Just minutes later Thunder defender Nicholas Edwards stung the palms of the Roar keeper with a well struck shot from well outside the box.
Edwards and Wade Hall proved to be key components in the Thunder’s performance.
The pair operated as wingbacks outside three central defenders and effectively shut down the Roar’s main attacking threats out wide.
Despite lining up with five at the back the Thunder still played a positive brand of football – quickly transitioning into attack at every opportunity.
Striker Anthony Grant benefited most from the Thunder’s new look scoring two goals.
“Maybe it wasn’t our best footballing performance but it was definitely our most disciplined,” Grant said.
“We were nice and tight all over the pitch and everybody was working really hard for each other.
“It’s a great way to start the second half of the season and I think we’ll be able to really go on with it from here.
“Personally it was good to score a few – I’ve been in a bit of drought.”
The Thunder’s senior women’s side lost 7-1 to NPLW rivals Western Pride.
