Rider prepares to face best in state

-

EQUESTRIAN: Toowoomba student and equestrian rider Tara Wilkinson has qualified to compete in the Interschool Queensland State Championship.

The TACAPS Year 11 student finished second in the show jumping category at the recent Darling Downs Regional Championship held at Dalby Showgrounds.

Wilkinson said she had been riding her whole life having grown up with horses.

“I have only been riding competitively at official competitions since I was about nine,” she said.

Wilkinson said she gets really nervous when she competes but it is something she is working on.

“It’s quite a mental game when you ride because you have to go out there and you have to be confident because if you’re not confident the horse can sense it,” she said.

“So you need to have that confidence in yourself to help the horse.”

Wilkinson trains with her horses Zuba and Zorro every day for an hour.

The Interschool Queensland State Championship will be held at Caboolture from Saturday, June 30 to
