TRL is bracing for a Super Saturday

RUGBY LEAGUE: Four teams in the top five are gearing up for one of the most anticipated Saturdays in TRL history this weekend.

First-placed Valleys travel to take on third-placed Highfields, while one of the biggest rivalries in the league between Wattles and Warwick is set to ignite Clifton.

Andrew O’Brien from At The Footy with Obee and Cookie

will be calling the match between the old rivals and couldn’t hide his excitement for the bumper weekend of rugby league in store.

“It’s a very big game for Warwick. If they lose it gives Gatton, Oakey and Pittsworth a sniff,” he said.

“The toughest game of the year was Gatton and Warwick, and both sides lost the week after. It shows it has taken them a few weeks to really recover.

“Their rivalry has been going over many years, and it is the first time in a while both teams have the potential to win the premiership.

“Wattles was good against Oakey, they did what they had to do. They’ve got players of the calibre of Travis Burns and Matt Duggan with Jackson Green at the back, and Nathan Gaulton was good on the weekend as well.

“Warwick has a fantastic line-up though, and it’s going to be a great game.”

At the weekend, O’Brien was at Gilbert Oval in Goondiwindi on Saturday night where Highfields downed the Boars.

“I thought the Highfields stars Jarrod Lee, Sean Loxley, Dale Madden and Tom Hine got the job done,” O’Brien said.

“Of all the sides in the TRL, Highfields are probably the only one that has above a 60 per cent completion rate average.

“It was a polished performance by them in the cauldron.

“Goondiwindi played to what we’ve wanted them to play all season, and it confirmed Tyrell McCullough is one of the game’s best hookers.”

One of the most crucial wins over the weekend came at Gatton where the Hawks took down Dalby, and O’Brien said Gatton needed to go on with it now.

“They still have a lot of work to do. They’re two games out of the five, as are Pittsworth,” he said.

“It was very pleasing yesterday from a Hawks point of view, but Dalby was disappointing at the same time.

“This time last year they were conceding just four points per game. They let in some soft tries around the ruck against Gatton which was their achilles heel in winning last year’s premiership.

“They can score tries without a problem, but their attitude is different defensively.”

At The Footy with Obee and Cookie will broadcast on Power FM from Clifton on Saturday night and for the important Oakey vs Pittsworth clash on Sunday.
