A MAN, 27, has been arrested after two days on the run from police which triggered a manhunt in the southwest Queensland border region.

The man was taken into custody at Mungindi about 9am yesterday after the two-day search which involved NSW police, private aircraft, Queensland police and specialist units.

He was last night in custody awaiting charges from police.

It came less than a day after police charged a St George man, 29, with 22 offences at the end of a separate arrest near Dirranbandi about noon Wednesday.

Police will allege the 29year-old evaded officers about 2pm on Tuesday when drove a stolen 4WD ute across the NSW border into Queensland.

It will be further alleged that the man collided with a police vehicle causing minor damage during the attempt to intercept his vehicle.

About 5.50pm that day the man drove into dense scrub land while attempting to evade police, with his vehicle sustaining damage and becoming unable to be driven.

A local man, 42, in the vicinity had a firearm pointed towards him by the offender, before the offender fled on foot.

The male victim was not physically injured.

The offender was found hiding in bush land on a property outside Dirranbandi about noon on Wednesday.

Subsequent searches of areas where the offender had sought refuge overnight resulted in the locating of a number of alleged stolen weapons.

The St George man was charged with weapon, property and serious traffic offences, some of which include- dangerous driving, dangerous conduct with a weapon, discharging a weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, fail to stop a motor vehicle, common assault and obstruct police.
